MITA Hosts Seminar Series

The Masonry Seminar Program consists of trainings designed to educate high school students on the trade of masonry.  Trainings include mortar mixing, hand tool identification and use, wall structures, etc.  These seminars are taught over the school year allowing for on-going communication with students that express an interest in the masonry trade.  The end result is a student entering the apprenticeship program at graduation from high school and age 18.  The intent is to teach an instructional day at minimum 4 times per academic year.   The first session includes an overview of the MITA apprentice program.  These seminars are designed at the request of classroom teachers who feel a one-time visit in a year is not effective for future potential trade knowledge nor potential apprentice program entry.  Conducting the full seminar program is at the request of the individual classroom teacher in high schools with a building/construction CTE pathway.  Students attending the seminars with an interest in masonry would be invited to participate in the MITA Boot Camp offered during the summer school break.   Four subjects are shared mortar, CMU, Red Brick and Veneer.  Two high schools took part:  Rancho Verde with Instructor Wahe and Tahquitz with Instructor Scott. We hope to have additional schools take part in the fuure.
