What to Expect?
MITA is State Registered Apprentice program in an earn-while-you-learn structure. You will learn on the job and in the classroom. Completion of the 3 1/2 year program will provide you with certificates from the Department of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) and the Department of Labor (DOL) as a journeyman mason. The program is free, you can enroll with a subscribing employer, or through adult school masonry classes. Apprenticeships consists of 7 periods and you will upgrade through each level as you earn the required number of job and class hours. Each upgrade comes with a salary increase. As an apprentice in training, you will learn the trade faster, safer and have a better chance to advance to a foreman or supervisor position based on your skill level. With the skills you learn in the program you begin a career for life and can take your experience anywhere you go! Classroom training will teach you about tools, materials, job safety, layout for block and brick, and blue print reading among other topics.
