SHOUT OUT
The 17th Annual Top Notch Trowel and Jim Broncatello Perpetual Trophy competition challenged masonry students from 4 high schools in 4 different projects! Who won? Medals were awarded as in royal tradition by “Bronc” himself. The school with the highest overall score wins the prestigious Perpetual Trophy with rights to display it at their campus for a whole year. Congratulations to ALL competitors!
Industry leaders judged all divisions. Many thanks to Art and Gilbert Ramirez of Ramirez Masonry, Tom and Tad Justus of Justus Masonry, Oscar Bojorquez with NuWay Masonry, Howard Cole California’s Fastest Trowel multi-year winner, Richie King Masonry Foreman, and Miguel Gonzalez MITA Journeyman. And the ‘man behind the trophy’ Jim Broncatello himself sharing his legacy with a smile 🙂
Each school brings a Tender to support their whole team.

WHO’S GOT SKILLS?
Contractor News & Views reports 60 schools in California and nearly 1,200 students competed in SkillsUSA 49th Annual State Leadership and Skill Conference [see the article here]. Our favorite part was a 2-day project built by Downey Unified School District’s Warren High School students. The Associated General Contractors Skills Building Trades technical advisor chairman Jack Chapel ran this best-ever multi-trades event. MITA Members, Suppliers, Judges, and Apprentices all helped the masonry competition!
